The difference is scar tissue you can feel as a flat lump or a hard band, plus pain or a bend serious enough to interfere with sex. A urologist can usually feel the plaque on a physical exam.</div></details><details><summary>Is Peyronie's disease cancer?</summary><div class="acv-a">No. NIDDK says the plaque is benign, meaning it is not cancerous and not a tumour. Mayo Clinic says Peyronie's disease is not caused by cancer. The plaque is also not the same plaque that builds up in arteries.</div></details><details><summary>Will it go away on its own?</summary><div class="acv-a">Rarely. Mayo Clinic says Peyronie's disease rarely resolves by itself and that in most people it stays as it is or gets slightly worse early on. NIDDK says some mild cases do go away without treatment, but that severe curvature or plaque rarely does.</div></details><details><summary>How long should I wait before considering surgery?</summary><div class="acv-a">Until the curve stops changing. NIDDK says medical experts recommend not having surgery until the plaque and penile curving stabilise, and puts the start of that chronic phase at roughly 12 to 18 months after symptoms first appear.</div></details><details><summary>Can a supplement or a stretching device straighten it?</summary><div class="acv-a">There is no oral medicine that effectively treats penile curvature, according to NIDDK.
